Zorra
Zorra Township (population 8000) is located in the northwest corner of Oxford County, neighbouring Ingersoll, South-West Oxford and East Zorra-Tavistock. Zorra Townshipis home to several communities including Thamesford, Embro, Kintore, Lakeside, and Harrington. Zorra is a township built by people full of community spirit, culture and agricultural roots. Thamesford (10 minutes west of Ingersoll) offers pretty park views of the Thames River, perfect for picnics. The parks are also home to a dog park and disc golf. We suggest grabbing a bite or treat in town then enjoy the river views. Heading north of Thamesford you will find Kintore, Lakeside and Harrington. This area offers farm markets, you-pick berries, woodworkers, trails, heritage mill, camping, and watersports. All nestled amongst farm fields, forest and rolling hills. Ten minutes northeast of Kintore, or 10 minutes north of Beachville, is Embro. This area offers community theatre, a cafe, old fashioned butcher, cheesemaker, golf and farm stands offering garlic to lavender (we think both smell amazing).
As mentioned this is a region full of community spirit - and there is no better time to enjoy this than at a local festival. Embrace Embro's Scottish roots and attend Ontario's oldest highland games organized by the Zorra Caledonian Society. They Host the Embro Highland Games (July 1st), a National Tartan Day pub night and a St Andrew's Banquet. The Embro Agricultural Society hosts an annual fair (3rd weekend September) and the art of homemaking workshops (from bread making to crochet). The Oxford Junior Farms get the tractors and audience revved up with their Embro Tractor Pull (Civic Holiday weekend) an entertaining competition that brings farmers together from across Ontario. The Thistle Theatre hosts two productions a year and past performances have included plays celebrating local heritage. Harrington is home to a community association that regularly hosts concerts and celebrations. Victoria Day weekend follow the loud noise to Thamesford for Calithumpian. This community event is over 100 years old and its name has English origins referring to a loud boisterous parade). So yes tthere is a parade, community yard sale, fireworks, and plenty of entertainment for all in the family.
Friendly communities are awaiting your visit in Zorra Township.
