South-West Oxford

Reasons to Visit & About

South-West Oxford (population 7600) to the North borders the communities of Woodstock, Ingersoll and the Thames River (between HWY 2 & HWY 401). Norwich Township is to the east and Tillsonburg to the South.  If you haven't already guessed Southwest Oxford is one of the largest townships - but drive times are short (typically just 5 minutes to the next village/stop down the road).  You will find Beachville on Beachville Road between Ingersoll and Woodstock (10 minutes from each). Beachville is where the first Recorded Baseball Game was held and you can explore this history (even hands on) at the Beachville District Museum.  5 minutes south of Woodstock is Sweaburg home to the Day use Trillium Woods Provincial Park trail and a sweet Canadian Treat (Jakeman's Maple Farm).  Travelling between Ingersoll and Tillsonburg down HWY 119 (20 min drive) you will travel through Sweaburg, Mount Elgin and Ostrander (about 5 minutes apart).  Along that route you will find a sheep milk cheese producer, a Nordic spa, restaurants, destination golf course, farm producers, markets, an old fashioned mercantile, heritage airplanes, hiking trails and a flower farm. Several cycling routes can also be found on paved and gravel roads.  This area has a lot to offer, in close proximity to each other, but also for overnights in nearby urban centres.  Get out on the road for a Southern Slowdown.
