Discover a few hidden gems during Big Cheese Days (Saturdays in May) this year in Oxford County's South End.  From unique shopping excursions and delicious Dutch treats to cheesy dishes and unique cheese accessories, there's something for everyone in the small towns of Norwich, Otterville and Tillsonburg.  Take quiet country roads between towns to make the day extra brie-laxing.

Stop #1: Churn Your Own Butter with Local Flavours

Norwich Museum, 89 Stover Street N. Norwich ON (View Map)
10am-11:30am

Step back to a simpler time at Norwich Museum as you learn to churn your own butter like a pioneer. Museum staff will guide you through the process and help you to infuse local flavours into your butter.  Then of course, taste the fruits of your labour as you spread your butter on traditional Dutch bread from a local bakery and eat it up! Before you leave, take a peek through the museum to discover interesting histories about Quaker life, Norwich's rich dairy heritage and more.

Stop #3: Sample Dutch Specialties

Sundown Farms Country Market, 412573 Cranberry Line, Tillsonburg ON. (View Map)
12:15pm-12:35pm

If you've never tried a frikkadellen before, you're need to pop by Sundown Farms during Big Cheese Days for a sample! Don't know what that is? A frikadellen is a traditional Dutch hot dog.  Sample these delicious treats as you check out the market filled with all kinds of local treats from apples grown right on the farm to a huge variety of local cheese and locally roasted peanuts and chips. If you love what you tried, be sure to grab a package of frikadellen to enjoy at home!

Finally, escape in a rural haven in the small (and we mean small) and beautiful town of Otterville.  R Wee Inn is a Scandanavian-inspired B&B and you'll have the place all to yourself.  Nestle into a cozy chair by the fire or enjoy a drink and some of the cheese you purchased in the kitchen.  You'll love this rural getaway.  For Big Cheese Days, check out their Gunn's Hill Breakfast Pacakge which includes fresh local breads, croissants, Gunn's Hill Cheese, fruit, cured meat and more.
