WOODSTOCK PUBLIC LIBRARYWoodstock_Library.jpg
Constructed in 1909 with a grant from the Carnegie foundation, the Woodstock Public Library's classically inspired architecture features a stone portico supported by six elegantly fluted columns with Corinthian capitals. Twelve additional columns grace the dramatic interior rotunda. The building is described in Beckman and Langmead's 1984 study of Carnegie libraries, The Best Gift, as epitomizing "the grace and dignity of the Ontario Carnegie libraries". The library was expanded and restored in 1996 by Toronto architect Philip Carter. The addition is noteworthy for its sympathetic treatment of architectural details from the original exterior.
