Benwell, Frederick C.
1865 - 1890
Benwell.jpg Frederick Cornwallis Benwell was born September 15, 1865. He was the oldest son of Lt Col. Benwell of Cheltenham, England. In February, 1890, he was killed in the Blenheim swamp just east of Woodstock, Ontario. The law accused Reginald Birchall of the murder and, on November 14, 1890, he was hanged in the Woodstock Jail Yard. Although many people believe that Birchall was the murderer, there was never any solid evidence or a guilty plea to accuse him justly.
