Come out of your shell on June 25th and join the fun at Tillsonburg’s first Turtle Festival! This new festival is based on a legendary promise by Tillsonburg’s founder, George Tillson, to return one day as a turtle to see how his town was prospering. Several years after his passing, a giant turtle was found on the banks of the Otter Creek near the Tillson homestead. Remembering his promise, Tillsonburg citizens brought the turtle to the downtown area & everyone was invited to come & see “George” and let him know how the town had prospered. It’s been over a hundred & thirty years since this event & Tillsonburg is still growing. We’re inviting you to visit on this special occasion & see how Tillsonburg continues to prosper!
Tillsonburg’s Turtlefest will kick-off with a “turtle” waffle & sausage breakfast(at Brock Street W., 8 - 10 am) & will include a number of “turtlely” events such as a “hardtop” convertible car show (west side of Broadway across from Canadian Tire, 8am - 4pm), a turtle education centre(at Station Arts Centre, 10am - 4pm), Franklin the Turtle stories & crafts (at Annandale (ANHC) 11 - 1pm), a Turtle Walk/Geo Caching (to be held as a walk on town hiking trails, 11am - 4pm), Turtely games and races for kids & adults (tba 1 - 3pm), Turtle Sweets Baking Contests(hosted by Station Arts Centre, 2 - 4 pm), a Turtle swim (at Tillsonburg Waterpark, 3 - 5pm) and much, much more!
